{"id":6131,"date":"2010-07-05T00:01:14","date_gmt":"2010-07-05T04:01:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/?p=6131"},"modified":"2010-07-05T02:26:42","modified_gmt":"2010-07-05T06:26:42","slug":"what-wendy-wore-yankee-doodle-doggy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2010\/07\/what-wendy-wore-yankee-doodle-doggy\/","title":{"rendered":"What Wendy Wore: Yankee Doodle Doggy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An acquaintance recently said of my blog, &#8220;All you do is post pictures of yourself, right?&#8221; I laughed because that comment was a perfect counterbalance to the time that I was rejected from a fashion-blogging network  &#8212; not the wonderful Independent Fashion Bloggers, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=Obvs\" target=\"_blank\">obvs<\/a> &#8212; because I&#8217;d recently posted about the 7th century&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2007\/12\/thursday-book-club-empress-wu-part-i\/\" target=\"_blank\">Empress<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2008\/01\/thursday-book-club-empress-wu-part-ii\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wu<\/a> instead of doing an outfit post or writing about the latest collections.\u00a0 What can I say? It&#8217;s true that I&#8217;ve stepped up my <a href=\"..\/category\/what-wendy-wore\/\" target=\"_blank\">What Wendy  Wore<\/a> <a href=\"..\/category\/outfit-post\/\" target=\"_blank\">outfit posts<\/a> due to popular demand (in other words, gorgeous independent fashion blogger <a href=\"http:\/\/the-coveted.com\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jennine<\/a> said, &#8220;Do more outfit posts. People like them.&#8221;) But I still think I&#8217;m fairly eclectic in my blogging. I&#8217;m just a soul whose intentions are good. Oh Lord, please don&#8217;t let me be misunderstood.<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"480\" height=\"385\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/d2FT4FprxDg&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"480\" height=\"385\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/d2FT4FprxDg&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m accustomed to feeling <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefreedictionary.com\/Betwixt+and+between\" target=\"_blank\">betwixt and between<\/a>. My favorite business example is the time a store buyer waved her hand at my <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/pro-detail.php?colid=29&amp;collect=true&amp;id=211\" target=\"_blank\">Venus designs<\/a> and said, &#8220;Don&#8217;t do anything like that.&#8221; When I saw the same buyer the following week, I wore my <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/pro-detail.php?id=210&amp;collect=true\" target=\"_blank\">rose quartz Venus earrings<\/a> and she said, &#8220;Do more like that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I want to read your stories about feeling betwixt and between. Leave &#8217;em in the comments. And remember, if you do happen to be stuck in the middle with me, that means there are clowns to the left of you and jokers to the right. Look out! On July 3, I had a wonderful dinner (all appetizers and shared dishes) at <a href=\"http:\/\/pleinsudnyc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Plein Sud<\/a> with gorgeous blogger <a href=\"http:\/\/tinatheoccasionalcook.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tina<\/a> and gorgeous friend Melissa. It was nice and peaceful because everyone else was in the Hamptons. I wore the same outfit I did on <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2008\/07\/backup-dinner-outfit\/\" target=\"_blank\">July 21, 2008<\/a>. Damn <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=commie\" target=\"_blank\">Commie Pinko dog<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">If you look very closely at my photos, you see some red toenails peeping out. That polish is from a gift bag I got at the opening party for the gigantic <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/metropolis\/2010\/06\/25\/forever-21-times-square-braces-for-crowds\/\" target=\"_blank\">Forever 21 in Times Square on June 24<\/a>. (There were no color names on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forever21.com\/category.asp?catalog_name=FOREVER21&amp;category_name=beauty_nails_polish&amp;page=all&amp;pgCount=25\" target=\"_blank\">sample bottles<\/a>. Sorry!) I do love the bright red and it&#8217;s held up very well. The mushroom color is great for fingers.
