{"id":47523,"date":"2025-07-23T22:13:32","date_gmt":"2025-07-24T02:13:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/?p=47523"},"modified":"2025-07-23T22:13:33","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T02:13:33","slug":"the-age-of-majority-blogversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2025\/07\/the-age-of-majority-blogversary\/","title":{"rendered":"The Age of Majority Blogversary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This blog turns 18 today &#8211; it&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Age_of_majority\">legally an adult<\/a>.<\/p>\nI keep everything forever &#8211; the blog itself now qualifies as <a href=\nhttps:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/category\/uncategorized\/homegrown-vintage\/\n>homegrown vintage<\/a> &#8211; so I&#8217;ve never had any intention of letting this space go. However, late-stage capitalism, fascism, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DMdOyvssMZ1\/?igsh=cnNmbGFqbjh3dHNz\">genocide<\/a> haven&#8217;t been conducive to writing here. That&#8217;s not because I only wrote light-hearted content here. In fact, I felt like I didn&#8217;t adequately address serious topics unless I wrote about them here, at length, rather than posting about them in short-form on social media. But the bad news now comes so fast and furious that I can only keep up with it on <a href=\"http:\/\/instagram.com\/wendybrandes\/\">Instagram<\/a> and through in my (free) <a href=\"https:\/\/activismforeveryone.carrd.co\/\">weekly activism newsletter<\/a>. I don&#8217;t want to rewrite all of that here, nor do I have the urge to write about artificially cheerful things.<\/p>\nBut it recently hit me that while there is nothing I want to write here, there is plenty that I want to &#8220;unwrite.&#8221; I don&#8217;t mean I plan to delete old content, because I like having my personal history at my fingertips rather than in my less reliable memory.  Instead, I am going to review some of the things\/people\/places\/activities I used to love and reflect on why my feelings have changed as those former enthusiasms have failed to meet the current moment.<\/p>\nBefore starting down that road, I was going to wrap up this blogversary post with some examples of things that I do still enjoy nearly as much as when I started this blog with &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2007\/07\/just-placeholder\/\">just a placeholder<\/a>&#8221; on July 23, 2007. Alas, it seems I need WordPress help because the editing mode here is barely usable. I can&#8217;t upload photos and just embedding links required all kinds of workarounds. So off I go to see if I can find some technical help.
