This blog turns 18 today – it’s legally an adult<\/a>.<\/p>\nI keep everything forever – the blog itself now qualifies as homegrown vintage<\/a> – so I’ve never had any intention of letting this space go. However, late-stage capitalism, fascism, and genocide<\/a> haven’t been conducive to writing here. That’s not because I only wrote light-hearted content here. In fact, I felt like I didn’t adequately address serious topics unless I wrote about them here, at length, rather than posting about them in short-form on social media. But the bad news now comes so fast and furious that I can only keep up with it on Instagram<\/a> and through in my (free) weekly activism newsletter<\/a>. I don’t want to rewrite all of that here, nor do I have the urge to write about artificially cheerful things.<\/p>\nBut it recently hit me that while there is nothing I want to write here, there is plenty that I want to “unwrite.” I don’t mean I plan to delete old content, because I like having my personal history at my fingertips rather than in my less reliable memory. Instead, I am going to review some of the things\/people\/places\/activities I used to love and reflect on why my feelings have changed as those former enthusiasms have failed to meet the current moment.<\/p>\nBefore starting down that road, I was going to wrap up this blogversary post with some examples of things that I do still enjoy nearly as much as when I started this blog with “just a placeholder<\/a>” on July 23, 2007. Alas, it seems I need WordPress help because the editing mode here is barely usable. I can’t upload photos and just embedding links required all kinds of workarounds.
