I&#8217;m always amused the people who take it a little too far &#8212; the ones that truly believe the apocalypse coming and that gold will be the only thing with value. These people are also inclined to hoard weapons. I think the weapons are more useful, because if the apocalypse should come a la <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/I_Am_Legend_%28film%29\">I Am Legend<\/a>, the zombies or whatever are not going to want your gold.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_gTmdbGeiE-E\/R9wsHKFm45I\/AAAAAAAACbQ\/Ll2O1FfpKww\/s1600-h\/apocalypse.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_gTmdbGeiE-E\/R9wsHKFm45I\/AAAAAAAACbQ\/Ll2O1FfpKww\/s320\/apocalypse.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178062173047808914\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><a style=\"font-style: italic;\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Four_Horsemen_of_the_Apocalypse\">The Four Riders of the Apocalypse<\/a><br \/><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">15th century woodcut by Albrecht Durer*<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p>Jon Nadler, a gold analyst with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitco.com\/market\/\">Kitco<\/a>, agrees with me. He&#8217;s quoted in today&#8217;s Wall Street Journal:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But he said gold bugs who hoard gold to the exclusion of other assets, predicting prices will reach $4,000 or $5,000 an ounce, are missing the point. The financial system would have to break down for gold to rise to those levels. It would &#8220;mean complete ruin for everything you own,&#8221; he said, in which case &#8220;you&#8217;d better invest in lead, for bullets.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">*Interestingly,<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Durer trained as a goldsmith before devoting himself to art<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATED TO ADD: How exciting! Someone at a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gold-eagle.com\/cgi-bin\/gn\/get\/forum.html?date=2008%3A03%3A16%3A07%3A00%3A00\">gold forum<\/a> posted a link to this. I&#8217;m pretty sure I&#8217;m the only zombie reference they have on that forum.
