I haven’t taken a proper outfit photo with this yet, but people have been stopping me on the street to ask about my new python-print hoodie, so I want to show some love to designer Megan Renee<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wondered if this pattern was too distracting to wear when I went out postering last weekend for my friend Kim Moscaritolo<\/a>‘s New York City Council campaign, but practically every small business I stopped at agreed to let me hang a poster up. Clearly this is a lucky hoodie. Get one for your city council race today!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I discovered Megan Renee’s work when I was browsing beRESONANT<\/a>, which launched a program to promote 11 Black designers<\/a> last July. In addition to the platform’s support for its creators, this part of beRESONANT’s statement about sustainability appealed to me because it’s very fine-jewelry like: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Every product we sell is\u00a0made for you<\/strong>\u00a0on demand\u00a0only after\u00a0it is ordered.\u00a0As a result, we do not contribute to the waste created by the nearly 25 billion garments that are either put in landfill or incinerated every year because they were made but not sold.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The hoodie and Megan’s other snake-patterned pieces caught my eye immediately. I’ve had a lifelong affection for snake motifs in clothes<\/a> and jewelry<\/a>. But just now — when I went to grab a photo from the website for this post — I realized there was another element in the picture that pulled me in. If you’re a real OG who has been with me from the beginning of this blog, you’ll probably notice it immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yep, latex leggings were one of my fashion obsessions from 2007 to 2009<\/a>. I guess I never got over them! Even though I was only shopping for a sweatshirt, I remember thinking, “Damn, I like this whole look.” I’m not sure I have my old American Apparel leggings still<\/a>, but considering my hoarding tendencies, it’s possible. I’ll have to poke around in case I want to zhuzh <\/a>up my hoodie style next time I go campaigning for Kim. If I had so much success with the snake-print hoodie, imagine what I’ll accomplish if I wear it WITH latex leggings! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
