Tourmaline and opal are October’s two birthstones. I’ve shared the double-tourmaline ring<\/a> that I created for ANZA Gems<\/a> before, but ANZA’s recent Instagram post of it has inspired me to feature the ring again. I love how this post shows the different phases the gems went through: uncut rough; faceted but loose gems; and finally the gems set in my ring design.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s better than an October tourmaline transformation? Why two, of course!! Yes, believe or not, both of these luscious gems are East African tourmalines! Both were sourced by @idazzle on different trips to Kenya and Tanzania. The golden custom trillion was faceted by @stierbstier in Michigan while the green custom keystone cut was faceted in New York. Leave it to @wendybrandesjewelry to weave them into one brilliant 18k gold piece handmade in New York City. Just goes to show how many hands create a single piece of jewelry. It takes a village.
