Valli is the king of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/?s=floof\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">floofy red-carpet dresses<\/a>, a trend I&#8217;ve been obsessed with since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2015\/02\/my-best-dressed-at-the-grammys-sia-and-her-child-minion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rihanna launched a thousand memes in a Valli gown at the 2015 Grammys<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><center><a id=\"q4zI2cb1Tu9aW2AbJ3czgg\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/466540812\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'q4zI2cb1Tu9aW2AbJ3czgg',sig:'Gcid5H3salQM0yZKcp1MaQfbYETZkkbXKo4poFBBVss=',w:'442px',h:'594px',items:'466540812',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/center><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Masstige&#8221; fashion &#8212; prestige + mass production &#8212; was so overdone years ago that I&#8217;m like, &#8220;How is this still a thing?&#8221; That said, from a business perspective, Valli <em>had<\/em> to do it, because nothing was going to stop the fast-fashion chains from knocking off an increasingly popular and distinctive look that has no copyright protection. Given the opportunity, a designer might as well collaborate in order to get some money and name recognition out of the experience &#8212; and hopefully do a bit of quality control &#8212; rather than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/making-a-long-story-longer-update-on-topshop-swear-rings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">getting zilch while overseas manufacturers degrade the whole concept<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And even so, once you knock off your own look cheaply &#8212; as with this &#8220;H&#038;M&#8221; dress seen on Kendall Jenner last month as part of the preview of the collaboration &#8212; the general public winds up with no appreciation of the quality and labor that goes into the higher-end version. Everyone&#8217;s gotta make their loofah jokes, you know? <\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zGTxnk1FtzI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I need to get over it and give myself on the back for correctly identifying floof &#8212; specifically Valli floof &#8212; as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/never-is-the-next-new-thing-oscars-pink-floof\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cNever Is the Next New Thing\u2122\u201d<\/a> example.
