{"id":42459,"date":"2019-05-06T16:18:47","date_gmt":"2019-05-06T20:18:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/?p=42459"},"modified":"2019-05-06T21:48:52","modified_gmt":"2019-05-07T01:48:52","slug":"met-gala-2019-preview-from-bitter-party-of-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2019\/05\/met-gala-2019-preview-from-bitter-party-of-one\/","title":{"rendered":"Met Gala 2019: Preview From Bitter, Party of One"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Met Gala &#8212; the informal name for the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art &#8212; takes place tonight and, as always, I am bitter about not being an invitee.\u00a0 Not because I want to rub elbows with celebrities and billionaires, but because I LOVE theme dressing and I LOVE to shop my closet and if Conde Nast editor and host Anna Wintour really cares about fashion SHE SHOULD LET ME BE GREAT!<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/9G3xuelhlGbiyVocla\" width=\"480\" height=\"346\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/love-happy-yes-9G3xuelhlGbiyVocla\">via GIPHY<\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>This is especially true because so many of the attendees regularly blow their opportunity to let their freak flag fly by dressing for a regular red carpet. The 2013 party, which celebrated the opening of the Met&#8217;s &#8220;Punk: Chaos to Couture,&#8221; exhibit was the recent nadir of Met Gala theme dressing. I managed to find two outfits that lived up to my expectations &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/my-met-gala-winners-are\/\">thank you, Miley Cyrus and Linda Fargo<\/a> &#8212; but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/what-wendy-would-have-worn-to-the-met-gala-w-o-w-style\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I would have done the full Wendy O. Williams look if given the opportunity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s theme is even closer to my heart than punk.
