Last week, I shared an interview that Isabella Santa Maria did with me<\/a>. She asked me a lot of jewelry questions, of course, but I was especially excited to answer her question about slow fashion.<\/p>\n

This week, Isabella<\/a> was interviewed by the BBC. She talks about the facial scarring she has from a childhood car accident, as she is shown creating a makeup look inspired by kintsugi — the Japanese art of repairing cracked pottery with gold lacquer.\u00a0 She says:<\/p>\n

“Growing up, having those flaws literally written on my face devastated me. I felt cursed. I was trapped in a prison of dirty stares and fleeting whispers, brick-wall relationships, and hideous insecurity.<\/em><\/p>\n

“It took many years for me to accept myself for who I was, and it took even longer to act upon it. My scars are visible, like those of kintsugi pottery. Yours may not be. But you take them with you wherever you go. You decide whether they\u2019re a burden or a blessing.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
