Two <em>years<\/em> later, when I wrote about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/wendy-brandes\/a-fashion-surprise-evolut_b_3629765.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the surprisingly long life of fashion trends for the Huffington Post<\/a>, peplums were <em>still<\/em> going strong at all price points.<\/p>\n<p>In that HuffPost story, I quoted trend forecaster Sheila Aimette who explained, \u201cThe lifespan of trends is just not within a six-month period &#8230; Things start slowly on the designer end and it takes several seasons for it to take off.&#8221; Truth be told, the &#8220;designer end&#8221; is often inspired by the street wear of <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books\/about\/Subculture.html?id=ZLTAPZ4_dLAC\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">youthful subcultures<\/a>, which is reinterpreted and passed along to magazine editors, celebrities, and other influencers who want to stand out from the crowd. That&#8217;s when the rest of us see the look and, after our initial shock, eventually think to ourselves, &#8220;That person is cool, though. I want to be cool.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is all a long-winded way of telling you that skinny eyebrows are destined to come back. I wasn&#8217;t convinced when I saw it on a couple of Instagrammers, but then the cover of the September issue of British Vogue was unveiled. Behold Rihanna with skinny brows!<\/p>\n<p><center><div id=\"attachment_40773\" style=\"width: 508px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.co.uk\/gallery\/rihanna-vogue-thin-eyebrows\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40773\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/sept-cover-press.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"498\" height=\"654\" class=\"size-full wp-image-40773\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/sept-cover-press.jpg 498w, https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/sept-cover-press-228x300.jpg 228w, https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/sept-cover-press-300x394.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 498px) 100vw, 498px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-40773\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Click for a brow story.<\/p><\/div><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Where Rihanna goes &#8212; even if it&#8217;s just for a magazine shoot or red carpet event &#8212; fashion often follows, whether that&#8217;s the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2014\/06\/rihanna-owns-the-cfda-awards-and-instagram\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">naked dress<\/a> or its opposite, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2018\/02\/dua-lipa-rihanna-and-floof\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">floofy dress<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glamour.com\/story\/rihanna-skinny-brows-vogue-cover\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">First there&#8217;s resistance,<\/a> of course. Then there&#8217;s acceptance. Asymmetrical skinny brows are not the business. I&#8217;ll also tell you what my mother told me: Plucked brows might not grow back completely. Yeah, it didn&#8217;t stop me either.
