Alas, none of the purchases triggered donations to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-slimstat=\"5\">ACLU<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-slimstat=\"5\">Planned Parenthood<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irteams.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-slimstat=\"5\">International Relief Teams\u2019<\/a> work in Puerto Rico. Playwright Israel Horovitz, for example, is finally facing the consequences of actions that were thoroughly covered by the Boston Phoenix weekly in 1993. This made me speculate that <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2017\/12\/time-for-r-kelly-to-face-the-music\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">singer R. Kelly &#8212; whose abuse of underage girls and young women has been reported by music critic Jim DeRogatis since 2000 &#8212; may finally face a different kind of music himself<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Speaking of music,<em>Saturday Night Live<\/em> aired a pointed song about sexual harassment called &#8220;Welcome to Hell&#8221; with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=F57P9C4SAW4\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Katy Perry-style candy-themed set<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1l26UFQ06eQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I especially appreciated these lyrics:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n<em>&#8220;Now House of Cards is ruined and that really sucks.<br \/>\nWell here&#8217;s a list of stuff that&#8217;s ruined for us:<br \/>\nparking, and walking, and Uber,<br \/>\nand ponytails, and bathrobes, and night time,<br \/>\nand drinking, and hotels, and vans.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It was perfect that those lines came right after Leslie Jones stepped into the skit to remind us that everything is worse for women of color. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecut.com\/2016\/08\/a-timeline-of-leslie-joness-horrific-online-abuse.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jones suffered exceptionally relentless online abuse last year <\/a>as one of the stars of the all-woman remake of <em>Ghostbusters<\/em>. Trolls generally went berserk over the concept long before the movie came out, supposedly because the remake &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wweek.com\/arts\/2016\/07\/14\/the-ghostbusters-reboot-might-ruin-your-childhood\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ruined their childhood<\/a>.&#8221; But none of the white stars got it as bad as Jones did. <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s good that <em>SNL<\/em> now voluntarily shares clips on YouTube because I couldn&#8217;t watch <em>Saturday Night Live<\/em> live this weekend. I was out seeing <em>Lady Bird<\/em>, the movie starring SNL guest host Saoirse Ronan. The movie is Greta Gerwig&#8217;s solo directorial debut and <a href=\"https:\/\/editorial.rottentomatoes.com\/article\/lady-bird-just-broke-a-rotten-tomatoes-record-heres-what-greta-gerwig-has-to-say-about-that\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the many rave reviews are justified<\/a>. I&#8217;ll be shocked if <em>Lady Bird<\/em> doesn&#8217;t get Oscar nominations for Best Director, Best Picture, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (the incredible <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laurie_Metcalf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Laurie Metcalf<\/a>). Other small-budget but stellar movies that I expect to see at the Oscars include <em>Get Out<\/em>, <em>The Florida Project<\/em> (which I can&#8217;t stop thinking about), and <em>Call Me By Your Name<\/em>. What makes that extra-gratifying is that it proves no one is irreplaceable, including Harvey Weinstein, who fancied himself the king of the smart, award-winning film. Now <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2017\/10\/the-harvey-weinstein-sex-abuse-scandal-grows\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">that he&#8217;s been exposed as a sexual predator and dethroned<\/a>, it turns out that we have no reason to miss him.
