When I was nominated for a Women’s Jewelry Association award last month<\/a>, MrB asked if I would be wearing a recently acquired dress to the dinner<\/a>, or if I needed an even newer dress (What a nice man, right?). I said no to both. I wanted to wear a ’20s-style dress I got 10 years ago<\/a>.\u00a0 I knew I’d made the right decision when I got to the venue at Pier 60 and discovered I matched the entire building!<\/p>\n

Of course, I stayed away from the Fresh Air Fund’s fake pearls for this week’s jewelry event. Only real pearls allowed!<\/p>\n

I was told that my NASTY necklace<\/a> showed up very clearly on the video screen during my acceptance speech<\/a>. Good!<\/p>\n

My pearl earrings were my Empress Wu dragons,<\/a> worn for good luck because they’d placed in the JCK Jewelers’ Choice Awards in 2013.<\/a> They had a lot of company in my ears because I currently have five piercings on each side<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On this ear: 3 lobe piercings, one tragus, and one daith.<\/p><\/div>\n

I don’t believe I’ve ever posted a photo of this Alexander McQueen purse before. The glove snaps off!<\/p>\n

I did have a slight pang about not wearing my NYC Taxi and Passenger Maneater ring <\/a>when I saw this nice big taxi sign …<\/p>\n

… but overall, I felt good in my homegrown and double-vintage outfit<\/a>. By the way, if you are going to a really big event where you might have to speak (and you feel very nervous about public speaking!) I would recommend wearing an outfit you’ve worn before. That way you know how your dress is going to feel, behave, and photograph. It’s much less of a distraction than something new!<\/p>\n
