While we regular people don&#8217;t get to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute benefit <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2014\/05\/flashback-the-costume-institute-galas-of-the-1990s\/\" target=\"_blank\">like we used to<\/a>, that&#8217;s the outing I fantasize about the most because it&#8217;s an opportunity for over-the-top, themed, costume-y fashion. However, this year&#8217;s Met Gala had me stumped for a while. The 2017 event celebrates the museum&#8217;s new exhibit on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\/exhibitions\/listings\/2017\/rei-kawakubo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rei Kawakubo<\/a>, who designs the avant-garde Comme des Gar\u00e7ons label. I don&#8217;t own any Comme des Gar\u00e7ons. I wore it to a 2010 Lady Gaga concert with latex-look leggings, platform boots, and stylized makeup. For an avant-garde party, if I can&#8217;t wear a gown with  humps, I don&#8217;t want to wear a gown at all.
