Goldin attends the event even when her own daughters can&#8217;t. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;My friends, young women who she knew, they would go along with her,&#8221; Reeni explained.<br \/>\nThey would be her daughters. People would ask, &#8216;Are these your daughters?&#8217; She would say yes! They clearly weren\u2019t, but she would make them hers.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And Sally said, &#8220;\u201cEverybody would come running up to her and cry, kiss her, and say, &#8216;Would you call my mother?&#8217; or &#8216;Would you be my mother?'&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Goldin has long been an activist for other causes too. BuzzFeed reported that in 2011, at 87, Goldin participated in Occupy Wall Street. She&#8217;s also the subject of a documentary called <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ittook50.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">It Took 50 Years<\/a><\/em><\/a>, about her fight to save a portion of the Lower East Side in New York City from development in the 1960s.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Goldin said of NYC Pride, &#8220;&#8230; I hope to keep going for as long as I am able.&#8221; I hope so too!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York&#8217;s LGBT Pride march is taking place on Sunday.
