{"id":33979,"date":"2016-09-09T15:23:28","date_gmt":"2016-09-09T19:23:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/?p=33979"},"modified":"2016-09-11T12:08:30","modified_gmt":"2016-09-11T16:08:30","slug":"fond-memories-of-manolo-the-shoeblogger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2016\/09\/fond-memories-of-manolo-the-shoeblogger\/","title":{"rendered":"Fond Memories of Manolo the Shoeblogger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the glory days of fashion blogging (2005 &#8211; 2009, in my opinion), I was addicted to one of the first of the genre: <a href=\"https:\/\/shoeblogs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Manolo the Shoeblogger<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Manolo the Shoeblogger &#8212; who was NOT Manolo Blahnik the shoe designer &#8212; did have great taste in shoes, but it was his whimsical writing style (he called himself &#8220;the Manolo&#8221; and preferred &#8220;superfantastic&#8221; shoes) that made readers love him so.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/eddriscoll\/2015\/5\/2\/legendary-shoe-blogger-reveals-secret-identity\/\" target=\"_blank\">He even did this email interview in his classic Manolo voice<\/a>. On the blog, the Manolo reviewed shoes and doled out advice to people with shoe questions.\u00a0 He branched out to create additional blogs and also wrote for a section of the Washington Post. But sadly, over the years, the Manolo became less active. His last few posts were in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>For some reason, the Manolo crossed my mind this week, so I hit <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/search-engine-self-censorship\/\" target=\"_blank\">Poodle<\/a> to search for an update. Success! The Manolo is (was?) <a href=\"http:\/\/eccentricculinary.com\/about-me\/?utm_content=buffer1d845&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\" target=\"_blank\">H.D. Miller<\/a>, chair of the Department of History, Politics and Philosophy at Lipscomb University in Nashville. <a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/eddriscoll\/2015\/5\/2\/legendary-shoe-blogger-reveals-secret-identity\/\" target=\"_blank\">Thanks to Ed Driscoll of PJ Media for satisfying my curiosity<\/a> and explaining why the Manolo gradually abandoned shoe blogging.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate, I will share this sparkling Christian Louboutin pump that the Manolo suggested last year for Valentine&#8217;s Day &#8230; or, as he described it, &#8220;the most fabulous sort of shoe to wear to the mass of devotion to the Saint Valentine.
