{"id":33335,"date":"2016-07-11T23:52:16","date_gmt":"2016-07-12T03:52:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/?p=33335"},"modified":"2016-07-12T00:11:08","modified_gmt":"2016-07-12T04:11:08","slug":"my-best-dressed-at-the-2016-hip-hop-honors-is","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2016\/07\/my-best-dressed-at-the-2016-hip-hop-honors-is\/","title":{"rendered":"My Best Dressed at the 2016 Hip Hop Honors Is &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VH1 had an annual <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hip_Hop_Honors\" target=\"_blank\">Hip Hop Honors<\/a> telecast from 2004 to 2010 to recognize &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vh1.com\/news\/264960\/vh1-hip-hop-honors\/\" target=\"_blank\">the luminaries who broke new ground and propelled the [hip hop] genre into the cultural phenomenon it has become<\/a>.&#8221; I&#8217;m not sure why the network stopped doing it, or why the show was resurrected tonight, but I approve because the theme was &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vh1.com\/news\/271426\/lil-kim-tribute-hip-hop-honors\/\" target=\"_blank\">All Hail the Queens<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Obama made an appearance via pre-recorded video, and Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah and Lil&#8217; Kim were special honorees (<a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/category\/music\/gangsta-boo\/\" target=\"_blank\">my girl Gangsta Boo<\/a> had her picture up on the wall, though she wasn&#8217;t there in person). You see, <a href=\"http:\/\/theboombox.com\/faith-evans-tupac-biggie-lil-kim-rumors-video-music-box-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\">Faith is the widow of the rap icon known as the Notorious B.I.G.<\/a>, while Lil&#8217; Kim was Biggie&#8217;s prot\u00e9g\u00e9 &#8230; and <a href=\"http:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/news\/id.31089\/title.faith-evans-says-she-was-oblivious-to-biggie-lil-kim-affair-for-years\" target=\"_blank\">girlfriend<\/a>. It&#8217;s been 19 years since Biggie was killed in a still-unsolved drive-by shooting, so I guess everything is now very civilized. Or crazy. Or crazily civilized. Either way, I like it, and Faith looked great.
