Last year, I declared that big hoop earrings were due for a comeback<\/a> after the fashion-world frenzy for ear cuffs, ear climbers, earring jackets, “front-back” earrings and mismatched studs. About the latter style, I said, “This look has fashion editors hitting the piercing parlors<\/a> so they can load up on more studs.” Today, multiple ear piercings are still going so strong that what used to signify rebellion has become pretty basic<\/a>, and I always keep in mind what Valerie Steele, the director and chief curator of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, said when I interviewed her for my 2013 Huffington Post story on the surprisingly long life of fashion trends<\/a>: “When you reach the maximum of whatever it is, the height of your mini or the height of your heel, the pendulum will swing and it will move to something else.”<\/p>\n

Sure enough, last Thursday, Erica Blumenthal of the New York Times wrote, “Now that you’ve pierced your ears all the way up the lobe and amassed a collection of tiny personal studs, it turns out that big is back in earrings.” She added, “The most classic way to get in the game is with hoops.”<\/p>\n

Of course, you don’t have to get rid of all those single studs that I’ve been selling you since 2012.<\/a> The Times says, “…take advantage of any single earrings by mixing and matching.”\u00a0 And as I pointed out in my Huffington Post trend piece, plenty of trends exist, and co-exist, for a decade, so mix everything together. Meanwhile, if you’ve become addicted to piercings and your ears are out of fresh territory, the delicate septum piercing is still gathering steam among the tr\u00e8s chic<\/em><\/span> peeps<\/a>. I predict septum jewels won’t be totally standard till next summer or fall.
