(When I wore a <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2015\/01\/what-wendy-wore-marsala-zang-toi-at-the-gem-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\">Marsala-hued Zang Toi gown this January<\/a>, I accessorized with my turquoise skull ring.) From what I can see in tonight&#8217;s photos, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.justjared.com\/2015\/05\/04\/gong-li-wendi-murdoch-are-gorgeous-met-gala-2015-co-chairs\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gong Li is just wearing one ring tonight &#8230; diamonds, perhaps<\/a>? From a jewelry designer&#8217;s perspective, I&#8217;m sad she didn&#8217;t keep going with the richly colored gems. There&#8217;s a saying that a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2006\/jul\/31\/arts.theatre\" target=\"_blank\">great actor can read a phone book<\/a> and still hold the audience&#8217;s attention; I would watch Gong Li read a phone book in Mandarin.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QSyynT9IidU\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p>If you want to have yourself a Gong film festival, I recommend <em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Red_Sorghum_%28film%29\" target=\"_blank\">Red Sorghum<\/a><\/em> (1987), <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Raise_the_Red_Lantern\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Raise the Red Lantern<\/em><\/a> (1991), <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Story_of_Qiu_Ju\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Story of Qiu Ju<\/em><\/a> (1992), <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Farewell_My_Concubine_%28film%29#Cast\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Farewell My Concubine<\/em><\/a> (1993), and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Temptress_Moon\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Temptress Moon<\/em><\/a> (1996). Most of these movies are pretty traumatic. Keep tissues, alcohol and comfort food at hand.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, that clip above of Morgan Freeman reading the phone book is <a href=\"http:\/\/observationdeck.io9.com\/this-behind-the-bricks-look-at-the-lego-movie-is-a-go-1508645912\" target=\"_blank\">from a promotion<\/a> for 2014&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1490017\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The LEGO Movie<\/em><\/a>. That had to be something to entertain the parents, right? Does anyone under the age of 10 know what a phone book is? Are phone books still being made? I haven&#8217;t seen one in years. <\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I need to get back to the Met Gala red carpet to scout for my <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/category\/best-dressed-wear-what-you-want-award\/\" target=\"_blank\">Best Dressed\/Wear What You Want combo award winner<\/a>. While Gong Li looks exquisite, my award is about recognizing extreme looks. I see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.justjared.com\/2015\/05\/04\/sarah-jessica-parker-wears-giant-headpiece-to-met-gala-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Jessica Parker in a big headdress<\/a>.
