I mean, what if I decided to wade into the mosh pit and do some crowd surfing? First I considered being a dark-haired <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/what-wendy-and-stevie-wore-fleetwood-mac-at-msg\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stevie Nicks<\/a>. Then I thought, &#8220;No! MrB and I had been invited to the Oscars, which were March 23. I was so excited and spent a good month putting an outfit together. Then, on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iraq_War\" target=\"_blank\">March 20<\/a>, the U.S. invaded Iraq. Everyone was terribly upset for reasons that were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boreme.com\/posting.php?id=19902#.VFV4cIdk7yw\" target=\"_blank\">very accurately summed up by <em>Family Guy<\/em><\/a>. People questioned whether the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/75th_Academy_Awards#Ceremony_information\" target=\"_blank\">Oscars should go on<\/a>, and, if they did, whether there should be a red carpet or if anyone should dress festively at all. I ran out and bought the black tuxedo just in case I needed to look very serious. The red carpet went on &#8212; though it did get <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/envelope\/la-et-envelope-red-carpet-moments-pictures-016-photo.html\" target=\"_blank\">cut short<\/a> &#8212; and, in the end, I wound up wearing the vintage <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2008\/02\/nomi-malone-loves-versace-too\/\" target=\"_blank\">Versace<\/a> dress and secondhand Jimmy Choo shoes that I got at <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/bloggers-invade-upper-west-side\/\" target=\"_blank\">Allan &amp; Suzi<\/a> after all.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_27680\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27680\" class=\"wp-image-27680 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/versace-2003.jpg\" alt=\"versace 2003\" width=\"240\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/versace-2003.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/versace-2003-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-27680\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sorry for the tiny photo.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It was a memorable Oscars ceremony: an exuberant Adrien Brody planted a big kiss on Halle Berry and Eminem&#8217;s &#8220;Lose Yourself&#8221; became the first rap song to win an award. I never regretted the tuxedo purchase, because I&#8217;ve gotten far more use out of that suit than I got out of the dress.<\/p>\n<p>I bought the lace-up boots I wore last night a few months ago, after searching the Interwebs for<a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2010\/10\/lace-up-like-vintage-madonna-and-wendyb\/\" target=\"_blank\"> 1980s-style shoes<\/a>. These looked to be the genuine article and I was very excited until they arrived. I always forget that we wore such <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2014\/01\/at-least-im-consistent-80s-influences-and-flower-feet\/\" target=\"_blank\">blocky-looking clothes in the &#8217;80s<\/a>.\u00a0 Jackets, for instance, were shaped more like rectangles than hourglasses. That look doesn&#8217;t hold up too well today, though I do like remembering how awesomely sex-ay we felt back in the day. It was like, &#8220;Look how fierce I am! I&#8217;m shaped like a SQUARE!&#8221; So these boots are kinda clunky but they worked for the costume, even though I didn&#8217;t look presidential at all.
