That job apparently attracts musical people!\u00a0 In 2012, I went to see<a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2012\/05\/casting-call-for-bloggers-wearing-wedge-sneakers\/\" target=\"_blank\"> former communications director Mike Webb perform in Brooklyn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s Nicole performing one of her songs, &#8220;The Edge.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/I5J93-juWow\" height=\"315\" width=\"420\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I wore a vintage Moschino jacket that hasn&#8217;t appeared on the blog since 2008.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23838\" alt=\"grafitti\" src=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/grafitti.jpg\" width=\"498\" height=\"664\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/grafitti.jpg 498w, https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/grafitti-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 498px) 100vw, 498px\" \/><strong>What Wendy Wore<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><strong>Jacket:<\/strong> Vintage Moschino (purchased in 2007)<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>T-shirt:<\/strong> Splendid<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Jeans:<\/strong> Acne (2008-ish)<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Shoes:<\/strong> Prada (<a href=\"http:\/\/followgram.me\/i\/353781765951182346_3925500\" target=\"_blank\">2012<\/a>)<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Purse:<\/strong> YSL (2013)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After Nicole played, a trio called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Swampboots\" target=\"_blank\">Swampboots<\/a> performed. They were a lot of fun. You never know what kind of cool musical act you&#8217;ll stumble across in New York. Sidewalk Cafe is on Avenue A at East 6th Street. It&#8217;s been around for nearly 30 years and is just a few blocks away from the site of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadway.com\/buzz\/157695\/life-cafe-new-york-eatery-made-famous-in-rent-closes\/\" target=\"_blank\">now-closed<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/life-cafe-new-york-3\" target=\"_blank\">Life Cafe<\/a>, which was made famous outside New York by the musical <em><a href=\"http:\/\/lifecafe.com\/rentconnection\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rent<\/a><\/em>. If you&#8217;re a <em>Rent<\/em> fanatic, looking for a little bit of that neighborhood vibe, swing by Sidewalk Cafe. From there, you can walk over to another place that dates back to before the neighborhood was gentrified: the occult store Enchantments, which is on East 9th Street, between Avenue A and 1st Avenue. Go to the counter in the back and get a custom-made candle spell. In addition to curing your woes with magick, the candles smell nice and look pretty. Years ago, <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2007\/10\/what-inspires-me\/\" target=\"_blank\">I got a bottle of inspiration there<\/a>.
