The chicken is part of my luxe 18K gold signature line. For the more budget-conscious, the Huffington Post’s technology section included the silver emoji earrings from my WENDYB by Wendy Brandes diffusion line in “Gift Ideas for the Texting-Obsessed Friend in Your Life<\/a>.” I was kind of amused that the story described the $35 earrings as “a little on the pricier side.” It’s true that my earrings — made in groupings of 10 at a time, here in New York City — can’t be sold at H&M prices (Why? Refer to the “Get Smart” post mentioned by Poppy as well as my other “Get Smart<\/a>” posts), but they cost less than any device one might use for texting! This reminds me of my 2007 post called “Why Does Buyer’s Guilt Focus on Fashion?<\/a>” I wrote, in part:<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m always annoyed at how a fashion is incorrectly perceived as a woman\u2019s topic, and therefore trivialized and criticized. We\u2019re told we should feel bad about it even though men can pour their money into technology and sports-related consumerism guilt-free. Yet, food, clothing and shelter are the most basic of human needs. Do you see the iPhone on that list of basic needs? No.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Obviously, earrings aren’t clothes and therefore aren’t on the list of basic needs but it’s human nature to want to adorn oneself.\u00a0 Earrings from 3000 BC have been found in royal graves in Iraq, and, about 10 years ago, Chinese archeologists reported finding jade earrings that were more than 7,000 years old<\/a>. That’s a pretty impressive history.\u00a0 The first iPhone was introduced in 2007, and nowadays, if you want a 16GB unlocked, no-contract iPhone 5c, it will cost you $549 — $514 more than a single sterling silver emoji earring from my line. Just sayin’.<\/p>\n

Anyway, speaking of the emoji<\/a>, if you live in New York, you’ll have a chance to shop for them in person this Thursday, Dec. 12.
