After<\/a> years<\/a> of taking <\/a>shiteous<\/a> concert photos followed by some sporadic but significant improvement (see Eminem<\/a>, Skylar Grey<\/a>, Beyonce<\/a> and Rihanna<\/a> … but not Depeche Mode<\/a>), I now go into full-on photojournalist mode at concerts. On one hand, I want to just enjoy the concert. On the other hand, I feel compelled to make up for a couple of decades of blurry Madonna photos<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I had good luck — thanks to great seats — at last night’s superfun Macklemore + Ryan Lewis concert at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.\u00a0 I was happy with this photo.<\/p>\n

I don’t see a lot of male performers doing as many costume changes as Macklemore.<\/p>\n

Why should the ladies do all the costume work? Besides, it makes sense for the guy who did one of the best fashion-related songs of all time to switch it up on stage. I’ve always thought that “Thrift Shop<\/a>” wasn’t really about thrift shopping so much as it’s about the magical feeling you get from wearing something special. That could be a new pair of Adidas, a big-ass coat from that thrift shop down the road, or a messy blond wig and a sequin cape.<\/p>\n

Macklemore told a lot of autobiographical stories<\/a> between songs. He had a nice rapport with the audience and struck me, Stacy and MrB as a born performer. We agreed that if he wasn’t doing music, he’d have to do something else in the entertainment world. Some people are meant to be on stage. And maybe I’m meant to be taking concert pictures, because look at what I achieved with this shot of Mary Lambert, the singer on Macklemore’s “Same Love<\/a>“!<\/p>\n
