I took another look at the blog to see if that’s the case, and decided that while it is true that the Advanced Style subjects who go for the full-on costume effect are most memorable, there are others who are totally relatable. This week, for instance, something about Ruth Kobin — wearing a slim-fitting camel-colored sweater with an open neck, chunky jewelry and lipstick — caught my eye. Any “woman of a certain age” can wear this look, don’t you think?

Photo by Ari Seth Cohen for Advanced Style. And I think I’m in love with her because at one-hundred-and-fucking-two years old, Ruth is not having an Nora Eprhon-esque “I Feel Bad About My Neck” turtleneck moment.

I’ve noticed that a lot of women much younger than 102 feel bad about their arms long before they feel bad about their necks. Because of that, bare arms tend to attract my attention. Back in August, I was impressed by, first, the dazzling smile and, secondly, the bare arms of 62-year-old bride Gay Cioffi in the New York Times wedding section.
