I got a nice mention in the September issue of Jeweller Magazine<\/a>, a jewelry trade magazine for Australia and New Zealand.\u00a0 The story by India Nicholson is about jewelry with secret compartments; it really gets into the history of this type of design:<\/p>\n

I was pleased to see a mention of a locket ring owned by Elizabeth I because that ring has been a big inspiration for me.<\/p>\n

It was also good to see a reference to Lucrezia Borgia because I have a ring named after her.<\/p>\n

The examples of contemporary designs included work by well-known designers such as Stephen Webster and Theo Fennell, so I’m in great company. Here’s my part of the story.<\/p>\n

If I’d known the magazine was only showing one view, I would have suggested one of my many locket designs with something inside. Maybe my Juana peekaboo skull locket …<\/p>\n

… or my Chicken-in-Egg locket, whose golden egg opens to reveal a silver chicken with a diamond eye, sitting on a nest. The chicken opens again to show three tinier gold eggs. People always get a kick out of that one.<\/p>\n

My Virginia Woolf Whistle necklace<\/a> and acorn-and-squirrel necklace<\/a> are other examples of jewelry designs with a surprise inside.<\/p>\n

Still, I’m thrilled by the recognition, especially because I’m very committed to the idea of “covert luxury” in my signature 18K gold line. Even when my jewelry doesn’t open locket-style, there are special hidden details to delight the wearer.
