Laura Mvula is a British singer\/songwriter whose debut album, Sing to the Moon<\/a><\/em>, reached the top 10 in the U.K. charts. She was just nominated<\/a> for four of the U.K.’s MOBO music awards<\/a>; that ceremony will take place in Glasgow next month.<\/p>\n

Last night, she performed in New York at Le Poisson Rouge<\/a>, the same place where I saw Skylar Grey<\/a>, and a great venue for getting up close and personal with an artist.<\/p>\n

Stacy Lomman says it looks like Laura is photobombing her shot of some guy’s head rather than vice versa.<\/p><\/div>\n

The audience was so in love with Laura that she couldn’t help but smile through a sad song. (She has a lot of sad songs and said at one point, “I swear I had a happy childhood!”) I particularly like the less-sad “Green Garden.”<\/p>\n
