The Teen Choice Awards<\/a> took place on Sunday, and Stephanie Schaefer<\/a>, a writer for jewelry-industry publication JCK Magazine<\/a>, hit me up to see what I thought about the fashion.<\/p>\n

As with the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala<\/a>, Miley Cyrus was a standout for me, as I told Stephanie. To elaborate a little more on Miley’s black-leather Saint Laurent look (you can see it here<\/a>) I loved that the sheer shirt worn over a black-leather bra buttoned up to the neck. It would have been a whole different story if she wore the black bra with nothing over it, even though you technically see the same amount of skin. That little bit of sheer fabric gave the ensemble a decadent-elegance\/’70s YSL\/Helmut Newton vibe.<\/p>\n

I also liked the way singer Cher Lloyd looked in her outfit by The Hellers<\/a>. The very of-the-moment crop top bared just the right amount for a teen-oriented event. The bow on the waist of her matching skirt brought a touch of innocence. Combined with her bouffant hairstyle, the clothes gave me a late\/’50s early ’60s, sexy-sweet “Gidget” feeling. But the oversize, chunky gold necklace was modern and edgy and saved the look from being too saccharine and costume-y. In fact, if you erased all her tattoos, this is a look that a parent could point to while telling a daughter, “Why don’t you dress like this nice girl?” Ah, that brings me back to my youth.
