Eleanor married England’s Henry II<\/a>, the son of the jewelry-inspiring Empress Matilda<\/a>, who was another enormously powerful woman. No one married for love in the 12th century, but I like to think it wasn’t entirely<\/em> coincidental that the woman who was most politically advantageous for Henry to marry just so happened to be as tough as his mother.<\/p>\n
