When I had the chance to wear my highly flammable, oversize, costume-store-purchased pirate shirt to an Adam Ant concert last year<\/a>, I had a Family Guy <\/em>moment. <\/em>In the Family Guy<\/em> episode “Boys Don’t Cry,” the Griffin family is on the run from people who think baby Stewie is possessed by the devil. Stewie dresses in drag to escape notice and Brian, the talking dog, asks, “How you holding up, Stewie<\/a>?” Stewie replies, “Ummm … I feel right, Brian. I feel right<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

I suddenly felt right in pirate shirts. I said to Stacy Lomman<\/a>, “I wish some designer would do better-quality pirate shirts for a season so I could buy a couple.” Then I realized there was no need to wait for inspiration to strike someone else. Jean of Ghost Tailor<\/a>, who handles all my clothing alterations, also makes custom clothes. I hustled over to her studio to order one shirt in black and one in white. I think Stacy was trying to avoid dealing with them during our wardrobe-therapy sessions<\/a>, but she recently caved and paired the black pirate shirt with a pair of gray jeans.\u00a0 I wore the combination to my father GeorgeB’s birthday dinner on Friday. GeorgeB is a big Seinfeld<\/em> <\/a>fan, so I thought he’d get a kick out of my puffy shirt<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I think the style suits me more than it does Jerry Seinfeld.<\/p>\n

\nI actually got two Seinfeld<\/em> references into one outfit, thanks to the striped lining of my Stacy Lomman faux-ostrich-feather jacket<\/a>. Remember when Jerry’s new suede jacket<\/a> had a pink-and-white-striped lining?<\/p>\n

\nI have black-and-white striped lining, so if I had to turn the jacket inside out to protect it from precipitation, I wouldn’t feel foolish. You might think I should feel foolish regardless of my jacket lining because of my puffy shirt, but remember: I feel right in that shirt. I feel right.<\/p>\n

The day before GeorgeB’s birthday was Valentine’s Day. MrB and I went to a late dinner. I decided to give my heart outfits<\/a> a rest and wore my vintage Patrick Kelly bow dress instead. I was without Stacy’s styling services that day so I played it safe and wore the dress the exact same way I’ve always worn it<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I had my hair cut by Keith Carpenter earlier that evening<\/a>. In this photo, you can really see the choppiness and asymmetry that makes me the bane of more conventional hairstylists everywhere. The very rare times I go for a blowout with someone other than Keith or superstar-hairstylist Julie Matos<\/a>, I have to reassure concerned brush-wielding people that I do indeed know that my hair is extremely layered\/uneven\/undercut.
