The late, great Nora Ephron<\/a> wrote a book called I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman<\/em><\/a>. In the title essay, she called the neck “a dead giveaway” when it comes to age:<\/p>\n

“Our faces are lies and our necks are the truth. You have to cut open a redwood tree to see how old it is, but you wouldn’t have to do that if it had a neck.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

You know the saying, “If you can’t beat them, join them”? Sometimes I find myself thinking, “If you can’t hide it, flaunt it.” As I’ve written before<\/a>, I became attracted to big rings and nail art in part because of my perpetually stubby, easily broken nails.\u00a0At some point, I thought, “Fuck it. Nothing is going to make these fingers look better, so I might as well have fun.”<\/p>\n

Gorgeous makeup artist Tennille Nielsen<\/a> apparently agrees. She asked me to make one of my sterling-silver number necklaces<\/a> with her birth year on it.<\/p>\n

What I really enjoyed about this was that Tennille is obviously many years away from having a Nora Ephron-esque bad-neck moment. But she’s gone out of her way to have her neck tell her story. She’s getting a jump start on the neck truth-telling process! That’s an IDGAF<\/a> attitude that I admire.<\/p>\n
