Sexy runway shows — and celebrity red-carpet choices<\/a> — have convinced some people that every Versace design is scandalously flesh-baring, but, as I’ve written before, there are plenty of conservative options<\/a>. I still have the sober Versace pantsuits I wore to work at Lehman Brothers<\/a> between 2000 and 2005. I also have a knee-length purple plaid Versace skirt that I got during the Lehman era. For as long as I’ve had it, I’ve been wearing it with one particular black sweater.<\/p>\n

As designer<\/a>\/blogger<\/a>\/stylist Stacy Lomman discovered during our wardrobe-therapy<\/a> project, I don’t have a lot of non-t-shirt tops<\/a>. She recently accompanied me to Bloomingdale’s to try to hunt down some options. We found a black peplum Maje sweater with an exposed zipper in the back. I wore it with the Versace skirt to a dinner party on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

During Versace’s Fall 2004 runway show, the skirt was shown with a hairy, deliberately-mismatched jacket<\/a>. I have the jacket, and I wear it all the time, though never with the skirt. I’m even wearing that jacket in my driver’s license photo!<\/p>\n
