I blogged about an adorable sarcophagus-and-mummy locket I made several years ago<\/a>, but I never put the necklace on my e-commerce website<\/a>. I meant to do so, but the one-of-a-kind necklace turned out to be too popular with editors and stylists for me to part with it. Now, with Halloween approaching, I figured I’d give y’all a chance to purchase it.<\/p>\n

The 3D sarcophagus is gold-plated and engraved on both sides. As always, I paid a lot of attention to detail, down to the sleepy, pleasant expression on the little fellow’s face and his tiny beard.<\/p>\n

He’s about 1 1\/4″ long on a 16″ chain.<\/p><\/div>\n

Inside the sarcophagus is a wee, blackened-silver mummy with diamond eyes. Like the sarcophagus, the mummy is finished on both sides — bandages are carved all the way around. I’m not one for taking the easy way out and decorating only the front of a piece!<\/p>\n

The mummy is attached to the sarcophagus by a chain so you don’t have to worry about losing him.<\/p><\/div>\n

The original models for the sarcophagus and the mummy were carved out of hard wax, used in a jewelry-making process called lost-wax casting<\/a>. In my opinion, that technique — though expensive and time-consuming — gives jewelry more personality than computer-based design does. All of my most elaborate pieces are made with lost-wax casting.
