For instance, <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/norris-church-mailer-and-the-importance-of-newspapers\/\" target=\"_blank\">in 2010, I wrote<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em> &#8220;I enthusiastically use<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Teh\" target=\"_blank\"> teh<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=interwebs\" target=\"_blank\">Interwebs<\/a> to stay informed, but I\u2019m highly aware of how easy it is to select only what you want to read. That\u2019s why I read on paper too. The mere act of turning the pages means I come across articles that I wouldn\u2019t necessarily hunt down or might plain miss online.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The wisdom of my paper habit was proven true again with a highlarious story in today&#8217;s New York Times &#8212; &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/09\/14\/sports\/football\/giants-deal-with-loss-of-kevin-gilbrides-longtime-mustache.html?smid=pl-share\" target=\"_blank\">Giants Deal With Loss: Assistant\u2019s Mustache<\/a>.&#8221; I have very little interest in football, but it brightened my day to read:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Kevin Gilbride\u2019s mustache, a legendary lip adornment that won two <a title=\"More articles about the Super Bowl.\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/reference\/timestopics\/subjects\/s\/super_bowl\/index.html?inline=nyt-classifier\">Super Bowl<\/a> championships and was respected as one of the most enduring examples of responsible facial hair in sports, died last month in a shaving accident at the Giants\u2019 practice facility here. It was believed to be about 41. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Gilbride, the offensive coordinator of the Giants since 2007 and a football coach since 1974, confirmed the death in an interview Thursday by pointing to his face.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The fairly lengthy story &#8212; 847 words (according to my word-count tool), meaning it&#8217;s the perfect length (<a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/what-wendy-wore-revolving-door-of-clothes\/\" target=\"_blank\">according to me<\/a>) &#8212; included reaction from mourners.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;It was just shocking,\u201d the Giants backup quarterback David Carr said. &#8220;I think it\u2019s bigger than if it happened to Tom Selleck, honestly. It had been there so long you almost wondered, like, what\u2019s under there?&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Naturally, experts were consulted. Aaron Perlut, the chairman of the American Mustache Institute, urged Gilbride to cultivate a new &#8216;stache:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;We\u2019d remind Mr. Gilbride that there are religious ramifications,&#8221; Perlut said. &#8220;According to the Dead Sea Scrolls, each time a mustache is shaved an angel falls to Earth from Heaven.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bwah!
