If not &#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stylelist.com\/wendy-brandes\/sneaker-wedges_b_1541355.html\" target=\"_blank\">CLICK HERE.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll see that at the end, I refer to a 1964 blues song, &#8220;Hi-Heel Sneakers,&#8221;  as <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/foot-fetish-wedge-sneakers\/\" target=\"_blank\">I&#8217;ve done before when writing about wedge sneakers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The song was written and first recorded by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tommy_Tucker_%28singer%29\" target=\"_blank\">Tommy Tucker<\/a> (born Robert Higginbotham).<\/p>\n<p><center><object width=\"420\" height=\"315\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/8bmbSC9c2ys?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/8bmbSC9c2ys?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/center><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been covered hundreds of times, so you may be more familiar with Stevie Wonder&#8217;s version &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><center><object width=\"420\" height=\"315\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/fFiKvHBVKg4?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/fFiKvHBVKg4?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/center><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; or the Rolling Stones&#8217;s version.<\/p>\n<p><center><object width=\"420\" height=\"315\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/tjBVoADDVUM?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/tjBVoADDVUM?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/center><\/p>\n<p>In the song, Tommy addresses the gal he&#8217;s going out with that night, encouraging her to put on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stlyrics.com\/lyrics\/lackawannablues\/highheelsneakers.htm\" target=\"_blank\">her red dress, high-heel sneakers and &#8220;wig-hat.&#8221;<\/a> He also tells her to bring along a pair of boxing gloves in case there&#8217;s a fight. Best to be prepared for that sort of thing, I guess.<\/p>\n<p>What I didn&#8217;t know until my Huffington Post story ran was that a singer named Sugar Pie DeSanto answered Tommy Tucker&#8217;s song with one called &#8220;Slip-In Mules.&#8221; She says her red dress is at the cleaners, and that she&#8217;ll be wearing low-heel, slip-in mules. She sings:<\/p>\n<p><em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Ain&#8217;t wearing no high-heel sneaker<br \/>\nCause they hurt my toes so bad.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/em><\/p>\n<p>She doesn&#8217;t say how she feels about wig-hats and boxing gloves. Take a listen.<\/p>\n<p><center><object width=\"560\" height=\"315\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/qLxjKOzuIPw?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/qLxjKOzuIPw?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got to thank a Huffington Post commenter who calls herself &#8220;notconvincedgranny&#8221; for bringing Sugar Pie&#8217;s song to my attention. I haven&#8217;t been so excited about a response song since the &#8217;80s, when UTFO&#8217;s &#8220;Roxanne, Roxanne&#8221; started hip-hop&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roxanne_Wars\" target=\"_blank\">Roxanne Wars<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Roxanne, Roxanne&#8221; accused <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lyricsmode.com\/lyrics\/u\/utfo\/roxanne_roxanne.html\" target=\"_blank\">a girl of being stuck-up<\/a> because she wasn&#8217;t interested in the rappers. I can&#8217;t believe she didn&#8217;t fall for their awesome outfits. <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/the-red-legged-musical-men-of-my-youth\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tight red pants were the hotness back then<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><center><object width=\"420\" height=\"315\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/KOTp3-jEMjQ?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/KOTp3-jEMjQ?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The first response was &#8220;Roxanne&#8217;s Revenge.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><center><object width=\"420\" height=\"315\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/J9IFs13w_JQ?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/J9IFs13w_JQ?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/center><\/p>\n<p>That was followed by &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Real_Roxanne\" target=\"_blank\">The Real Roxanne<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><center><object width=\"420\" height=\"315\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/I1eNO4bLrT0?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/I1eNO4bLrT0?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/center><\/p>\n<p>It didn&#8217;t stop there. Wikipedia has <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roxanne_Wars\" target=\"_blank\">a list of additional Roxanne songs<\/a>. The Police&#8217;s &#8220;Roxanne&#8221; &#8212; about a prostitute &#8212; has nothing to do with this series.
