The results of the Washington Post’s annual Peeps diorama contest<\/a> were announced last weekend. The winner was “OccuPeep D.C.”<\/p>\n

I’ve been obsessed with the Peeps diorama contest for years but have yet to enter. My extra-early New Year’s resolution is to build a Peep diorama for the 2013 contest. Of course, I made the same vow about 2011<\/a> and nothing happened. But this time I mean it! (Fast forward 365 days and there will be a post here swearing that I’ll do a diorama for 2014.)<\/p>\n

I love Easter candy even when it’s not in a diorama. The fact that I don’t celebrate Easter doesn’t prevent me from stuffing myself with Cadbury Creme Eggs<\/a> and jellybeans in addition to Peeps.<\/p>\n

Before delicious creme eggs were introduced in the 20th century<\/a>, people had to content themselves with giving each other outrageously expensive jeweled eggs for Easter. Well, I can get behind that too. One of my favorite mechanical designs is my Chicken in Egg locket, inspired by an objet d’art<\/em> in the queen’s collection at Rosenborg Castle in Denmark. This necklace was my first Jewel of the Month in November 2009<\/a>. The 18K gold egg pendant weighs 22.5 grams and is adorned with nine points of diamonds.<\/p>\n

I’ve only made one of these necklaces so far. If you love it, you should have gotten it in 2009 when it was a mere $9,500<\/a>. Due to the high price of gold<\/a>, I am now charging $16,000 for this necklace. I figure it’s still a bargain compared to what the piece from the Danish royal collection would cost you. And it’s equally worthy of museum display, in my not-so-humble opinion.<\/p>\n
