Beautiful, risky and totally memorable. Designer Olivier Theyskens&#8217; work is made for the red carpet &#8212; which is appropriate because the red carpet made his career when he designed Madonna&#8217;s 1998 Oscar dress.<\/p>\n<p><center><a id='GYdFQrtrRpV3Mh-5eTy8Cg' class='gie-single' href='http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/2124981' target='_blank' style='color:#a7a7a7;text-decoration:none;font-weight:normal !important;border:none;display:inline-block;'>Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'GYdFQrtrRpV3Mh-5eTy8Cg',sig:'Y7cgzVyLFlStLF7GjgZmv0lXfAmFY2nc7incUAFgLu0=',w:'356px',h:'594px',items:'2124981',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Quite a few of his piece since then have had a lasting impact on me, including his<a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2011\/03\/great-minds-think-alike-the-birds-of-rochas-and-perris\/\" target=\"_blank\"> &#8220;birds&#8221; gown for Rochas in 2006<\/a> and his <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2011\/09\/what-chartreuse-and-naked-marc-jacobs-have-in-common\/\" target=\"_blank\">chartreuse ombre for Nina Ricci<\/a> in 2007. (Theyskens goes through jobs like I go through Cadbury Dairy Milk bars.)<\/p>\n<p>Piper&#8217;s dress is so spectacular that I forgive her muddy-looking makeup and strange facial expressions.\u00a0 If I were wearing such a majestic dress, maybe I&#8217;d say &#8220;fuck it&#8221; to all the other elements too.<\/p>\n<p>Her dress was certainly the only one of the many pale dresses that stood out.\u00a0 The vast number of blush, pale pink, and other barely-there colors reminded me of <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2010\/03\/at-least-there-were-no-cement-shoes\/\" target=\"_blank\">the cement color that dominated the Oscar red carpet in 2010<\/a>. Dull, dull, dull.\u00a0 If I were there, I would much rather be wearing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-style\/news\/sarah-michelle-gellars-daughter-chose-her-golden-globes-gown-2012151\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Michelle Gellar&#8217;s monstrous tie-dyed Monique Lhuillier gown<\/a> than blending in with the boring crowd. <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/pondering-the-patrick-kelly-leopard-dress-again\/\" target=\"_blank\">Speaking from personal experience<\/a>, it&#8217;s more fun to wind up on the worst-dressed list than be overlooked. Click to see more pix of my leopard dress.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Speaking of bad, why is <a href=\"http:\/\/justjared.buzznet.com\/2012\/01\/15\/kelly-osbourne-golden-globes-2012-red-carpet\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kelly Osbourne<\/a> a part of E!&#8217;s Fashion Police? I didn&#8217;t see her walk the red carpet, but when she was sitting down, all the focus was on her lavender-ish hair and cartoonish forearm tattoos and all I could think was, &#8220;Poor thing! A purple <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Care_Bears\" target=\"_blank\">Care Bear <\/a>threw up on her!&#8221; Her look wasn&#8217;t interestingly confrontational or personality-driven in a <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/category\/wear-what-you-want-icon\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wear What You Want style icon<\/a> way. It was just &#8230; stuffed animal.
