Yesterday was the sixth Independent Fashion Bloggers conference<\/a>. IFB<\/a> was founded in 2007 by my gorgeous friend Jennine of The Coveted<\/a> to provide fashion bloggers with the resources to build better blogs. It now has 30,000 members. Jennine first did a blogger get-together with a panel of speakers in a bar in September 2009. I was on one of the panels<\/a>. Since then, she’s worked up to bigger venues and bigger sponsors. Well-known bloggers including Tavi<\/a>, Susie Bubble<\/a>, Marc-Jacobs-inspiring Bryanboy<\/a>, and Rumi of Fashion Toast<\/a> have participated.<\/p>\n

This time, the sold-out event (330 people in attendance and thousands watching the livestream<\/a> at home) was at Milk Studios<\/a> — home of many fashion shows. Notable blogger attendees included Leandra Medine of The Man Repeller<\/a>, Claire from The Fashion Bomb<\/a> (last seen in Paris<\/a>), and model\/blogger Coco Rocha<\/a> (I might have been one of her first readers back in 2008<\/a>). From the corporate world, there were appearances by MTV Style<\/a>, People Style Watch<\/a>, and the always-entertaining Mr. Mickey from Paper Magazine<\/a>. Fashion personality Joe Zee<\/a>, the creative director of Elle<\/a>, was the keynote speaker. Joe may come from “old” media but he’s not at all threatened by “new.” In fact, I would summarize his comments as “social media is our future.” And now it’s time for a musical interlude with Whitney Houston!<\/p>\n

On Monday night, there was a pre-conference cocktail party at MObar<\/a> at the Mandarin Oriental hotel, where I finally got to meet the delightful Bella of The Citizen Rosebud<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I didn’t get a full outfit picture at MObar because I foolishly brought a small Alexander McQueen clutch instead of my large camera. I couldn’t go outside where it was raining harder than Hurricane Irene<\/a>, so I was forced to do my photography in the Hallway of Doom.<\/p>\n

Tuesday, for the conference itself, I wore head-to-toe, Lego-themed Castelbajac (remember, I have an addiction<\/a>!). Here I am with my conference wife, Lady Smaggle of Smaggle Style<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I’ve always loved that dress, but I’m having second thoughts about it after a blogger snapped a picture of it for her blog about dressing modestly. My reputation will be ruined! I need to talk to my idol Coco<\/a> about where she does her shopping<\/a> so I can send a better sartorial message. (By the way, congrats to Coco and her main pimp, Ice-T, for their smash success TV show, Ice Loves Coco<\/em><\/a>. And a big “IN YOUR FACE” to all the peeps who didn’t appreciate the Coco love I’ve been sharing since 2007<\/a>!)<\/p>\n

As for Lady Smaggle, she and I met as soon as the doors opened, sat down next to each other and stayed put for the next nine hours or so. We had a nice time tweeting each other despite our close proximity, and became especially bonded after barely surviving a harrowing coconut water spill. She’s going back to Australia and I really don’t know how I can go on without her. (Read her post on the conference here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Our tweets made up just a small portion of the IFB-related tweets. Over 4,000 were generated with the hashtag IFBcon. You can still see them by searching for #IFBcon<\/a> on Twitter. Most people were eagerly sharing the hot blogging tips they got from the speakers. I didn’t tweet anything like that. I wrote a bunch of random crap and demanded that people speak to me only in Parseltongue<\/a>.
