The actress <a href=\"http:\/\/www.femalefirst.co.uk\/celebrity\/Diane+Lane-10685.html\">Diane Lane cut her hair<\/a> for Locks of Love on live television. It&#8217;s all the rage to get haircuts to help &#8220;kids with cancer,&#8221; though as the charity&#8217;s website explains, most of the hairpieces go to kids with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naaf.org\/default2.asp\">alopecia areata<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Times reports, &#8220;As much as 80 percent of the hair donated to Locks of Love, the best known of the charities, is unusable for its wigs, the group says. &#8230; Even hair that survives the winnowing may not go to the gravely ill, but may be sold to help pay for charities\u2019 organizational costs.&#8221; The wigmaker then rejects about half of the remaining hair.<\/p>\n<p>To put it baldly: If you want to make a drastic hair change, do it for yourself. You&#8217;re probably the only person who is going to benefit.
