I was alerted to it by gorgeous blogger <a href=\"http:\/\/www.godammit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sister Wolf<\/a>. Here&#8217;s how FIT described it:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Get tickled by plumes:<\/span> Dr. Valerie Steele and Dr. Sarah Abretory, Professor of History at UCLA, discuss Dr. Abretory&#8217;s new book <em>Plumes: Ostrich Feathers, Jews, and a Lost World of Global Commerce<\/em>. This examination of the thriving global trade in ostrich feathers that flourished from the 1880s until WWI will be held on Thursday, May 7, 6:30 PM at the Center for Jewish History in NYC. For more information click<span style=\"font-size:100%;\"> <a href=\"http:\/\/museumatfit.pmailus.com\/pmailweb\/ct?d=IAlM1QBzAAEAAAa6AALTug\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">here<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><span style=\"font-size:100%;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sister Wolf summarized the above as &#8220;Jews and Feathers.&#8221; I think the discussion would be a hotter ticket with Sister Wolf&#8217;s title.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re not able to catch &#8220;Jews and Feathers&#8221; tonight, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyhistory.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">New-York Historical Society<\/a> (the hyphen is correct) has two great photography exhibits that will be on view through July 12. The 100 photographs in <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Harlem 1970-2009: Photographs by Camilo Jos\u00c3\u00a9 Vergara<\/span> provide a fascinating  time-lapse look at various locations in that neighborhood. You can see a block progress from ruined buildings to empty lots to new apartment complexes. The other exhibit, <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Landmarks of New York<\/span>, was curated by my personal friend, the gorgeous Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel. The 83 spectacular photographs of New York include one of the Flatiron Building at 23rd Street, between 5th Avenue and Broadway.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flatiron_Building\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 233px; height: 320px;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_gTmdbGeiE-E\/SgJZ1JbQTmI\/AAAAAAAAHpc\/2khCpZt6zOA\/s320\/Flatiron_building_by_day_september_20004.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332923678358261346\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">The Flatiron Building<\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n<p>After the building was completed in 1902, rumor spread that a downdraft created by the triangular shape of the Flatiron blew up women&#8217;s skirts to reveal their ankles. Scandal! Supposedly, the phrase &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/23_skidoo_%28phrase%29\" target=\"_blank\">23 skiddoo<\/a>&#8221; came from cops shooing away gawkers from the area.
