{"id":1109,"date":"2009-03-09T21:01:00","date_gmt":"2009-03-10T04:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/?p=1109"},"modified":"2009-03-09T21:01:00","modified_gmt":"2009-03-10T04:01:00","slug":"milagros-for-body-soul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2009\/03\/milagros-for-body-soul\/","title":{"rendered":"Milagros for Body &amp; Soul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I found an amusing boutique while visiting my gorgeous sister, Terri Berry, and the rest of the Berry family in Tampa, Fla. <a href=\"http:\/\/2008.poyntersummerfellows.org\/content\/at-milagros-handmade-soap-with-a-hint-catholicism\" target=\"_blank\">Milagros for Body &amp; Soul<\/a> sells Saint Agnes Soap, which the <a href=\"http:\/\/sisteragnes.com\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">website homepage<\/a> describes as &#8220;the finest handmade glycerin soaps from the world&#8217;s cleanest nun made available to saints &amp; sinners everywhere from Milagros.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The soap <a href=\"http:\/\/sisteragnes.com\/faq.htm\" target=\"_blank\">isn&#8217;t really made by a nun<\/a>, of course, but by &#8220;a bunch of clean-living, fun-loving women.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Agnes\" target=\"_blank\">Saint Agnes<\/a>, the patron saint of girls, was &#8220;adopted &#8230; as our patron saint since women make our soap.&#8221; Naming soap after a historical figure? That was <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/about-us.php\" target=\"_blank\">right up my alley<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The soap is made in big loaves and you can buy an inch-thick slice for about $8.  The soap comes in many different fragrances. I&#8217;m not usually a fragrance person, but I went crazy for the cute soap designs. The lovely ladies in the store were happy to let me take photos (<span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">click photos to enlarge<\/span><\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>The Flower Power soap was the one that drew me into the store. I come up with the design first and rely on serendipity to find me a name.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Milagro,&#8221; by the way, is Spanish for &#8220;miracle,&#8221; and &#8220;milagros&#8221; are religious charms.The store sells the charms.
