Click for original post.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The trend has become so noticeable that the <a href=\"http:\/\/tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com\/2011\/04\/01\/hot-pants\/\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times wrote about it last week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">But this whole time, I&#8217;ve had a vague feeling that I was missing some important red-pants history. While scrolling through my iPod this weekend, it finally hit me. How could I have forgotten <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Loverboy\" target=\"_blank\">Loverboy<\/a>&#8216;s 1981 Get Lucky album cover?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Get-Lucky-Aniv-Exp-Loverboy\/dp\/B000G7PNAY\/ref=sr_1_3?s=music&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1301953764&amp;sr=1-3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10440\" title=\"LOVER\" src=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/LOVER.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/LOVER.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.wendybrandes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/LOVER-290x300.jpg 290w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Loverboy&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtv.com\/videos\/loverboy\/256473\/working-for-the-weekend.jhtml\" target=\"_blank\">Working for the Weekend video<\/a> was on all the time in the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/MTV\" target=\"_blank\">early days<\/a> of MTV. In the video, lead singer Mike Reno wore the tight red pants he wore on the album cover plus a matching jacket.<embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"512\" height=\"319\" src=\"http:\/\/media.mtvnservices.com\/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:256473\" flashvars=\"configParams=artist%3D11525%26vid%3D256473%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A256473\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" base=\".\"><\/embed><div style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 4px; width: 500px; text-align: center; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; font-size: 12px;\"><a style=\"color: #439cd8;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mtv.com\/music\/artist\/loverboy\/artist.jhtml\" target=\"_blank\">Loverboy<\/a> &#8211; <a style=\"color: #439cd8;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mtv.com\/music\/\" target=\"_blank\">Music<\/a> &#8211; <a style=\"color: #439cd8;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mtv.com\/music\/video\/\" target=\"_blank\">More Music Videos<\/a><\/div>\n<p>In 1979, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/86139204\/Redferns\" target=\"_blank\">Rod Stewart wore skin-tight red Lycra pants<\/a> to perform <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Da_Ya_Think_I%27m_Sexy%3F\" target=\"_blank\">Da Ya Think I&#8217;m Sexy<\/a> (yes! we did!) at a Unicef benefit concert. That must have been why I incorrectly remembered Rod as wearing those pants in the official Da Ya Think I&#8217;m Sexy video, but it turns out he wore skin-tight black pants while a band member wore red. Click for video.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>My close personal friend <a href=\"http:\/\/wendybrandes.com\/blog\/2009\/06\/balmain-for-eight-crazy-nights\/\" target=\"_blank\">David Lee Roth<\/a> and the rest of Van Halen were very into red clothes.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"349\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/wlq0lYB3iSM?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" \/><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"425\" height=\"349\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/wlq0lYB3iSM?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Van Halen&#8217;s video for Hot for Teacher was a huge scandal. Everyone was worried it was going to corrupt the children. I still love the song and the video.
