Here is a short list of organizations to which you may donate money in the wake of the devastating earthquake\/tsunami in Japan.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/redcrosschat.org\/2011\/03\/14\/how-we-are-helping-after-the-japan-earthquake-and-pacific-tsunami\/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+RedCrossChat+%28Red+Cross+Chat%29\" target=\"_blank\">The American Red Cross<\/a> explains how it works during a crisis.\u00a0 Read, learn, and click Donate Funds in the upper right corner of the screen.<\/li>\n<li>The American Red Cross is sending the funds it collects to the Japanese Red Cross. If you want to donate to the Japanese Red Cross directly, click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/crisisresponse\/japanquake2011.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. The page also includes links to UNICEF, Save the Children and International Medical Corps.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.salvationarmyusa.org\/?p=5642\" target=\"_blank\">The Salvation Army<\/a> promises that 100% of funds will be sent to its Japan operations.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.doctorswithoutborders.org\/news\/article.cfm?id=5100&amp;cat=field-news\" target=\"_blank\">Medecins Sans Frontieres\/Doctors Without Borders<\/a> has an 11-member team in northeast Japan. Click the Donate Now button on the linked page.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shelterboxusa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">ShelterBox<\/a> distributes aid boxes that each supply up to 10 people with a tent and essential equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/secure.savethechildren.org\/site\/c.8rKLIXMGIpI4E\/b.6239465\/k.544E\/Childrens_Emergency_Fund\/apps\/ka\/sd\/donor.asp?msource=wenlpaqk0311\" target=\"_blank\">Save the Children<\/a> is asking for donations to its Children&#8217;s Emergency Fund.<\/li>\n<li>The<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifaw.org\/ifaw_united_states\/\" target=\"_blank\"> International Fund for Animal Welfare<\/a> is assessing animals&#8217; needs.<\/li>\n<li>You can also contribute to animals via <a href=\"http:\/\/japanearthquakeanimalrelief.chipin.com\/japan-earthquake-animal-rescue-and-support\" target=\"_blank\">Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The exception to the rule about not sending supplies is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opusa.org\/news\/news-release-tsunami-hits-japan-after-massive-earthquake%E2%80%93opusa-prepares-aid\/\" target=\"_blank\">Operation USA<\/a>, which is seeking <em>corporate<\/em> donations of bulk quantities of disaster-appropriate supplies.<\/li>\n<li>T<a href=\"http:\/\/www.japansociety.org\/earthquake\/\" target=\"_blank\">he Japan Society <\/a>says it is vetting the organizations that will have the most impact. It&#8217;s also okay to wait to donate. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/03\/16\/world\/asia\/16charity.html\" target=\"_blank\">According to the New York Times, charities aren&#8217;t able to do much on the ground at this point.<\/a> Rebuilding will take years, so you&#8217;ll have plenty of time to donate later.
