My Best Dressed/Wear What You Want Award for 2015

December 31, 2015 by WendyB

Sasha Charnin Morrison — formerly the fashion director for Us Weekly — called it. My Best Dressed/Wear What You Want award for 2015 has to go to 18-year-old Kyemah McEntyre for her self-designed prom dress.

Still my favorite dress of the year. 18 year old designer #kyemahmcentyre 's prom design was the coolest of 2015. Fit fit fit. Loved it. Naturi Naughton wore a custom gown to the BET Awards but this red still has my ❤️. I hope to see more great things…

Everything about this look: hair, accessories and, of course, that DRESS, is perfection. When I first introduced my totally made up extremely prestigious Best Dressed/Wear What You Want combo award, I said it would be bestowed on an event attendee who was dressed beautifully and interestingly. Later, it dawned on me that conventional attractiveness in dress wasn’t mandatory. “It’s more important to be eye-catching,” I wrote. But in Kyemah’s case, she’s got the eye-catching, interesting and beautiful categories so fully covered that I had to do an award for the whole year for the first time.

I’m delighted to see that Kyemah followed up her own dress with a custom red-carpet order for singer/actress Naturi Naughton, and that she planned to study at Parsons School of Design here in New York.

Keep up with Kyemah’s Instagram here.
