I’m excited to see big, un-stuffy, unexpected earrings having a major moment on this weekend’s red carpets.
Tracee Ellis Ross was my Best Dressed at the Golden Globes last month thanks to her two fistfuls of rings. Proving she’s no one-trick jewelry pony, Ross went completely ringless at last night’s NAACP Image Awards. That kept the focus on her extraordinary, sculptural, front-back earrings.
Ah-Maz-Ing. Here’s the front view.
This woman does not play it safe with jewelry, and I love it! Call me, Tracee! I’ve got plenty of crazy jewelry for you.
There were other awe-inspiring earrings at the Image Awards. Serayah McNeill wore big bejeweled crosses …

… and the huge disc earrings and statement rings on Andra Day gave me ’70s vibes.

At the British Academy Film Awards today, the jewelry talk was all about Kate Middleton’s massive diamond earrings with pear-shaped (and almost pear-sized) center stones.
This look is radical for a royal, plus pear cuts are so hot lately. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see a design like this at the Oscars. Looking for something more daring, I settled on Naomie Harris. Her earrings weren’t extreme, but they had great movement and color and perfectly complemented her ice-cream-colored Gucci dress.
As for the Grammys — which are on right now — my heart skipped a beat when I saw what Charlie XCX was wearing. I’ve written about my decades-long love of safety-pin earrings before and Charlie XCX DID THAT THING with oversize safety pins from the original punk designer, Vivienne Westwood. I haven’t found the perfect photo of them yet, but you can get some idea of the size.
Being a jewelry designer, I’m thrilled to see special-event earrings that aren’t diamond chandeliers. Good job, everyone!
Next up: my Best Dressed/Wear What You Want award for the Grammys.

Great earrings! Nice to see less traditional jewelry on the red carpet!
