My Valentine’s Day/anti-Valentine’s Day Jewels of the Month countdown made me postpone a number of outfit posts, so it’s time to catch up on fashion.
MrB and I visited Madrid and Pamplona in last month. While MrB spoke to journalism students, I sampled hot chocolate and churros at every opportunity.
I stopped traveling with vintage clothes after a long-ago incident with a fragile Ossie Clark dress. However, while packing for Spain, I realized a couple of my Patrick Kelly pieces looked pretty sturdy. I got this tweed jacket online … eBay? Etsy? … a year ago. Or two years ago. I wasn’t sure how I felt about it and never wore it. Suddenly, I love it and I’m wearing it all the time. I figured that would happen, which is why I kept the jacket around. Some clothes just have their moment!
What Wendy Wore in Madrid
Jacket: Vintage Patrick Kelly (acquired in 2014?)
T-shirt: Splendid
Jeans: Acne
Boots: Helmut Lang (pre-2005)
Purse: Louis Vuitton Alma in Epi (2001)
I should have taken a photo from behind too, because there’s a big, black velvet ribbon that pulls the jacket’s waist in by tying in the back.
In Pamplona, there are signs everywhere identifying Ernest Hemingway’s haunts, including Hotel La Perla, where we stayed.
What Wendy Wore in Pamplona
Dress: Vintage Patrick Kelly (Kelly’s Fall/Winter 1988 collection; acquired in 2009)
Belt: Calvin Klein (2009)
Shoes: Prada (2010)
I’m happy to say both Kelly pieces made it home intact, but, for some reason, the Calvin Klein belt came out of my suitcase looking like wild animals had been gnawing on it. Strange, but at least it’s easier to replace than a 28-year-old dress!
