“Silver to the Third Power” Manicure by Tracylee Percival

December 29, 2011 by WendyB

Celebrity manicurist Tracylee Percival and I always name the manicures she gives me, and this one is called “Silver to the Third Power.”

Tracylee’s concept was silver on silver on silver. The bottom layer is a gunmetal Minx application. She covered that with clear, long-lasting nail gel, then sprinkled silver glitter on. Finally, she added little silver jewels on top of the glitter and applied another layer of gel. Here’s another shot. Very festive for New Year’s Eve, no?

I'm wearing my own Fulvia ring design. Click for more ring info.

While Tracylee was thinking silver, I was thinking gold. I went to my goldsmith’s workshop today to melt down some unused gold so I can reuse it in new designs. I wielded the heat myself. This is how the gold looked after the meltdown.

The bigger lump in the front is 18K gold, weighing 15.8 pennyweights (dwt). The small lump is 1.1 pennyweights of 14K gold. Above the metal, you can see where my goldsmith jotted down the price per pennyweight I would get if I sold the gold today. Feel free to do the math. For more information about the price of gold, you can read this post from July and this one from October.

Don’t forget to follow Tracylee on Twitter!

UPDATED TO ADD: I almost forgot to mention that Tracylee did the nails for the Harper’s Bazaar Australia editorial that featured my rings. Take another look!

Your nails are like shiny disco balls! Or Borg inspired. Both of which are AWESOME.

My eyes crossed a bit even trying to do that math mentally. Yeesh! Gold is expensive. Glad I prefer silver.

That manicure looks almost gladiatorial, and very glam!I like. Don’t give me big hard sums to do ! I’d rather gaze at that beautiful ring. I love blue topaz, and have a few blingy pieces myself.

Fab nails, Wendy! I might even do my own for NYE – you’re so inspiring (of course, mine will look nothing like yours). I love that you wear your nails short.

That is such a gorgeous ring.

That manicure is so cool! You’re almost O.S.’ing, but not quite. I’d love just the bottom layer for myself.

The Fulvia ring is perfect with it. I love how chunky that ring is. It looks great on the index finger.
