Mondrian Manicure and Minx

May 13, 2011 by WendyB

The squares and dots of my latest manicure by celebrity manicurist Tracylee Percival remind me of Piet Mondrian‘s Broadway Boogie Woogie.

Tracylee's work.

Mondrian's work.

My obsession with chartreuse has now extended to my toes. While I was trying to take a picture of my metallic, chartreuse Minx pedicure, Henry the dog photobombed my feet, clearly begging for some nail polish of his own.

"Where's my paw-dicure?"

A plumber was at the house recently to fix a sink. Henry had gone to the groomer that day and came back sporting a very masculine ribbon on each ear. I overheard the plumber say to him, “Are you a boy? WHO DID THIS TO YOU?” Imagine what he would have said if Henry had his nails done too!

I can’t believe she’s doing these manicures by hand. LOVE it!

Henry is obviously very secure in his masculinity.

I am obsessed with chartreuse too. It seems so bright and spring like, also kind of gaudy and jarring, and I love that.

The yellow is fabulous!! I’ll have to keep that in mind… rumour has it I have a spa day coming up.
As for “masculine” dogs, my fiancé wants his parents’ bulldog to skateboard down the aisle with the rings when we get married. I said I’d agree on one condition: he would be wearing a purple collar with a bow. Apparently, that was a deal breaker.

My late dog, Mr. Chubbs, attended my wedding, but didn’t perform any stunts! http://wendybrandes.com/blog/2009/10/molly-will-be-missed/

I want to see Henry with his nails done!! 🙂 Love the color of this Minx peducure, btw. Sure it would fit Henry perfectly too!

Those geometric-patterned nails are absolutely Mondrian. I can’t imagine the patience it must have taken to create them. Your dog is too adorable: I’m sure his trip to the groomer is why he looks so fluffy and elegant. Ribbons can be masculine btw and YSL said: “A man cannot be elegant without a touch of femininity” (I’m paraphrasing).

I love these patterned manicures. I need to get one, although I’m ashamed to admit how long it’s been since I’ve seen a spa chair.

My dog, who is 50 pounds, looks like he should be a tough, masculine guy. But he thinks he’s a lap dog and loves trying on sweaters at the pet store. He’d probably be totally psyched about a manicure. Pretty funny.

Fabulous mani/pedi. I love that your toes are nearly the same color as that chartreuse skirt from the other day.

(I peeked back at your wedding photos and OMG YOU ARE SO BADASS with that leather outfit)

You’ve just made me so happy seeing your chartreuse Minx manicure! About 4-5 years ago a friend from London brought me a few bottles of the same colour varnish, and it’s become one of my all-time favs. Of course it went off the market & I was paranoid I’d run out, but now I see I could always get Minx as it looks identical (at least on my screen!) YAY! I love it on my toes too, but otoh I nearly always have a shade of green on my toes! Fab Mondrian manicure as well! I wish I had the patience to sit and have my nails done.

Little did that plumber know that he was mouthing off to

    Henry, King of the Britains!

    He wears what he wants.

I’m sorry, I cannot comment on nails — my brain has been hijacked by that oh-so-cute doggy! Give him lots of hugs and cuddles from me. 😀

    P.S. Loooove the nails.

I always love your nails. This one reminds me of a pedicure I (ambitiously) once did based on Dries Van Noten.

Your nails are awesome! I especially like the Mondrian.

Sometimes I am tempted to paint my dogs nails (although he’d probably end up poisoned from ingesting the varnish). I’d actually never do it, although I do think he’d look awesome with highlighter-colored claws!

I dig you. I completely don’t understand commenters’ “Why do you dress them in PINK?” – my husband’s and my affinity for the color pink and boys. What’s fucking wrong with boys and pink/fuschia/hot pink whatsoever???

    Henry looks like an accessory.
