DVF Leopard-Print Dress and Little Monster Paw … in 2002

May 7, 2011 by WendyB

I’ve been wondering when exactly I got my frequently worn leopard Diane von Furstenberg dress. Last year, when the photo below was taken, I figured that I bought the dress between 2000 and 2003.

Photo from the opening night of SATC2. Click for original post.

Good guess! While transferring files off an old computer, I found this photo from 2002.

WendyB in 2002, posing against a shower curtain.

I had worn the dress to my gorgeous sister’s wedding rehearsal dinner the same night the photo was taken;  I suspect the DVF was new at the time. The dress has held up wonderfully, but the Ralph Lauren leopard-print shower curtain is long gone. Too bad! It was such a good backdrop. The “wild cat’s paw” pose reminds me of Lady Gaga‘s monster-paw gesture and since I’m getting perturbed by studying a nine-year-old photo too closely (youth is wasted on the young), I’m going to distract myself with some Gaga right now.

Fun, fun, fun. I know you’re excited to have figured out the age of your dress. May I say that both of you continue to look splendid? O? Thanks. I said it. It’s the truth.

That’s sweet of you. But — oh my — I see changes. In me, not the dress! Still happy to pin down the timing though.

Nine years ago?? Listen, if you told me you just cut your hair today I’d believe it and think, wow that’s cute!! I wanna use whatever skin stuff you use cuz it’s werkin!! I suspect you really have a portrait hidden in the attic, tho!!

You’re making me feel better, because I’ve been scrutinizing that photo and freaking out! I can remember how I was unhappy with how my hair was behaving in the humidity that night and now I’m thinking, “Why did I even care about the hair, I should have been running around screaming, ‘I’m YOUNGGGGGGGG!'”

This is exactly the wonderful thing about photography and blogs, you are able to pin point so may things and document them! In five years when you’re still wearing this dress, you’ll be able to look back on today!

The blog has been awesome for tracking things. Anything post-2007 is on the blog. And I can remember pre-2005 things, because I left the corporate world in 2005. But figuring out the exact pre-2005 year is fun!

Wendy you look fiercely-fun in 2002 and fiercely-stylish in 2010.
Happy Mothers Day to you and your love ones,

I would keep for years anything from DVF…I just love her styles! Though I feel like I am constantly gleaning my closet, I really am someone who believes there are pieces worth hanging on to for years…this dress would be one…you look great in it and, as we know, animal prints come and go and come and go!!

Wow, I love old and new pics, you look awesome in both and YOU really do look the same in the photos apart from the shorter hair of course. That’s great you’re still wearing the dress, definitely a worthy purchase!

I had short hair for so long that I’m STILL surprised to see myself with longer hair. And I’ve had the longer hair for years!

It’s so cool seeing pictures of you wearing things you’ve owned for so long that still look amazing. You’re a walking advertisement for a) buying high quality clothing that’ll last and b) working out, or drinking virgin’s blood, or whatever it is you do that makes you look so freaking good.

Oh cute shag! I really hope I can see you in cornlocks next, you’re the only person I know who can rock any hairstyle! And can’t help noticing the HUGE engagement ring in the 2002 pic – is that the original design?

    • WendyB says

      May 18, 2011 at 11:54 pm

Yep, that’s the original look! I was gonna write about it but thought I’d hold out for a better pic.
