Unite to Fight Content Thieves

June 6, 2008 by WendyB

Lately, I’ve been plagued by “blogs” that are picking up my content and presenting it as their own. In at least one case, the entire “blog” consisted of posts that were lifted from all of you fashion-blogging bitches. I recognized all the posts! That one was on WordPress. I reported it via this link and WordPress suspended that account immediately. Since then, I’ve had WordPress suspend two others.

To report a spam blog to WordPress, click here. I’ve been giving them the main spam blog URL, the URL of the stolen content and the URL of my original content for comparison. Obviously, the spammers will keep coming back in new forms, but I think we should give them as much grief as possible.

How can you find these spam blogs? Through your traffic stats, by Googling your name/the name of your blog and by Googling your blog URL.

Of course, due to WendyB’s Law of teh Interweb (under which only the innocent are proven guilty), I’ll probably be falsely accused once again. If that happens … well, it’s been nice knowing you!

UPDATED TO ADD: Comment moderation turned back on due to spam comments.

No way. I had no idea these things were going on. I guess that explains some of the double posts I sometimes read. I wondered what that was about. Wendy I appreciate your wikipedia-like knowledge and your public-service announcement posts.

ugg, really? well thanks for ridding of one less copier!

btw, read your article in marie claire!!!! yay! i totally forgot you had mentioned it, but as I was flipping through the very airbrushed SJP & co. I was like hmm this article seems interesting, wait! I KNOW THAT WOMAN! AHH! AWESOME! Btw, it was great. I cannot fathom what it would be like to be in Caron’s shoes or even your’s. Even if both of us are at a loss as to what she should’ve done, I appreciated hearing the story and your perspective. You’re a very talented writer Wendy, not that I didn’t already know that from this wonderful blog, but it was nice seeing some of your writing in real print (the kind that leaves that lovely little ink stain on your fingers after reading 😉 THANKS again!

Jayne, thank you so much for your kind comment. I just saw the magazine myself five minutes ago and am still trying to recover from the shock of seeing those pictures for the first time. They’re not my usual smiling look. Plus, I need Restylane, stat!

I just assume that every time someone says something funny, that they stole it from me. But I appreciate your hypervigilance, and say unto thee: good lookin’ out.
