Cut It Out, You Heel!

February 6, 2008 by WendyB

Along with other bloggers, I’ve been observing the recent stampede of cut-out heels with interest.

Giuseppe Zanotti

Dior
KORS Michael Kors

United Nude was ahead of the pack when it launched its Mobius style in 2003. Updated Mobius styles are still available.

United Nude

I always wanted the United Nude shoes, but never found any that were comfortable. I was thrilled to find my cut-out Alaia wedges a couple of years ago.

My Alaias

I think the Alaia shoes have satisfied my taste for cut-out heels. Now I’m more interested in flower feet and fish feet. Though I admit that I am intrigued by United Nude’s Eamz style.

I like that the heel reminds me of office furniture. All it needs is a wheel to make it really useful. It also reminds me of the Marc Jacobs backward heels, but it looks more stable, don’t you think?

And I’m really loving these United Nude booties.

United Nude Zig Zag Hi booties, also available in black

If I hadn’t sworn off ordering shoes online, I’d definitely try the United Nude Fold Hi booties.

Fold Hi … or Fold Mid

Eye-catching!

And now it’s time for BEDROOM ALERT! BEDROOM ALERT! is a category for fashion that is so hot you won’t make it out of the bedroom. You’ll simply have to call in sick for all those boredroom meetings you had on your calendar. Too bad!

Okay, so you really do have to go to the office and dress seriously and whatnot? Hold on a few minutes; I feel a nap coming on. While I snooze, you can check out some totally excellent boardroom alerts from the charming and never-inappropriate Christina Binkley.

UPDATED TO ADD: Another cut-out heel style here.

You know why these were invented don’t you? To give guys someplace to hang onto while they spread… well, you get the idea. heh

Noooo!!! these beauties are just too much for me. I know “the higher the heels the closer to God” but these are just dangerous stuff, I guess. Very animated too. Reminds me of Japanese cartoons, doncha think so?
    Besos!

Ooh, EA, you are a naughty girl! Miss J, if you can’t do high heels to get closer to God, you will have to do high hair instead!

I love the Dior shoes!! I don’t think I can walk in them, but they do look great!!!

They should put little doors over the cut-outs. This would cut down on the size of handbags that women carry, thus saving them back trouble. Also, this would be a great place to stash weed.

Miss Janey…considering my poison ring collection…why didn’t I think of that?! Genius!

I love the Giuseppe Zanotti ones, especially. The kick the ass of those Marc Jacobs backwards heels.

I love the michel kors ones and of course my favorite designer ever Christain Dior. Very cute style but I can imagine someone interperting this style very wrong.

You’ve got to love United Nude strictly for the name.

The Louboutin for Rodarte shoes are dangerous and I’d fall down if I dared try to wear them. All the better for the not-leaving-the-bedroom-plan.

Now, if we’re talking practical wearability, I like the green KORS Michael Kors shoe the best.

But for sheer preposterous beauty, I have to go with Dior’s violet version.

the only place i wouldn’t fall on my ass in the louboutin heels is the bed! i need a nap, i’ll see what my heels are up to.

I think shoes are the one item in a serious outfit that you can go crazy on…who’s really staring at your feet anyways (unless you’re wearing studded and spiked dreams). I like how the cut-out shoes make you look like you’re floating.

i love this post! shoes shoes shoes. does it get any better than that?
I think the yellow Kors cutouts are my favorite. I love the silver booties. I mean I really LOVE them!!!
And yes, those office furniture booties totally reminded me of the Marc Jacobs backwards heels too.

Do the shoes with the cut-outs remind anyone else of those spring-y prosthetic legs that amputee athletes wear?

Cut out heels are certainly really cool! I can’t wait to get my hands on a cheap mimic pair. But not exactly sure if they’ll be comfortable enough to walk in.

Love both Kors, and your Alaia’s definitely chic!

I never let the rules of “In & Out” dictate my style, as long as I ensure those sitting next to me don’t get scratched pupils for merely looking, I’m good.

If I wore cut out heels, something would inevitably get caught in them and I’d end up on the ground in my fitted suit for all of Lower Manhattan to see.

I think the Louis Vuitton SS07 show really got me started on the cut-out shoe thing:

As much as I hate getting caught up in the Marc Jacobs hype machine, I just can’t seem to help but pine after his goddamned accessories.
