Giving You the Boot

September 25, 2007 by WendyB

I’m trying to avoid going into stores so that I’m not tempted to spend. Things are so much more enticing in person than they are online. I went into Barneys recently and I thought I was going to start licking the purses on the first floor. They looked so delicious. But I have new jewelry designs, new photographs, a new catalog and a new website to pay for. Oh, and new business cards, letterhead and packaging. I need to prioritize! Still, I am pondering the need for a pair of brown boots. These Miu Miu ones are nice and the heel looks high but sturdy.

Miu Miu boots from Bergdorf Goodman

While browsing the Bergdorf Goodman site, I noticed these black booties by Michael Kors. I do a lot of walking during the day, and this 2″ heel would be good for that. The boots are also a little Beatles-y, which is a plus.

I have a pair of old wedge-heel boots that give me about the same height as the Michael Kors, so I will probably just stick with what I have. The old ones are not the most comfortable shoes for a lot of walking, unfortunately, but don’t tell me to wear sneakers or flats! I’m strictly a heels woman.

Speaking of boots, if you’re looking for a rubber rain boot, I think these are pretty cool, but I wonder if the holes for the laces let in too much water.

Tretorn boots from Shopbop

When I was in high school, EVERYONE wore LL Bean shoes for bad weather.

These are called “duck shoes.” Why? I don’t know.

I hated the LL Bean shoes! Even then, before I wore heels, I was distressed by the unattractive shoe options for rain and snow. A few seasons ago, I was delighted when model of decorum Marc Jacobs came out with rain boots with heels. I got yellow ones because they made me think of the Morton Salt girl.

The Morton Salt girl has changed over the years. This version of her is almost as old as I am! Poor girl!

I wore them earlier this month when we had a deluge.

The rain had stopped but I was soaked!

This picture was taken earlier in the day, out the window of my cab. I was trying to capture how flooded the street was (very!) but I don’t think this really shows it. I still like the picture because the yellow of the other taxi contrasts nicely with the grey day. For some reason, I’m obsessed with yellow!

I’ve looked around teh Interweb a bit and haven’t found any new high heeled rubber boots like the ones I have, but these amusing Chooka boots would certainly brighten up a cloudy day.

eBay Rubber Boot Alert: If you are a size 6, the yellow Marc Jacobs boots are up for auction here. I don’t know if these stylish fetish boots are guaranteed to keep the rain out, but I’m sure they protect against other fluids. If I ever have to stand in a stream and fish for trout, I’m wearing these in order to look chic for the fishies. Vintage rubber boots would be fun but definitely measure your foot; shoe sizes have changed over the years.

The Beatles boots make me think immediately of Bob Dylan. Yellow is such a happy color! I think the Salt Girl should be the inspiration for next year’s fashion shows. That’s a look I would adopt.

oh you have to get the miu miu boots, they are gorgeous. although high they are thicker so perhaps more stability and less footaches. Are they online and how much are they?
